Therefore 0.02 m from the charge 10^-8 C, electric field is zero.

Given : Two point charges 10^-8 C and 4 × 10^-8 C are 0.06 m apart in air.

To find : the position of the point between them at which resultant electric field is zero.

solution : as both charges are positive, electric field will be zero between them.

let x distance from the first charge, electric field will be zero.

electric field due to first charge + electric field due to 2nd charge = 0

⇒k(10^-8)/x² - k(4 × 10^-8)/(0.06 - x)² = 0

⇒1/x² = 4/(0.06 - x)²

⇒1/x = 2/(0.06 - x)

⇒0.06 - x = 2x

⇒0.06 = 3x

⇒x = 0.02 m

Therefore 0.02 m from the charge 10^-8 C, electric field is zero.
