The possible value of the unknown charge is equal to +27 q

Option c

Explanation:

  • Let us first considered about the first charge. The magnitude of the charge is equal to + q and the the distance from the axis is equal to a. Hence the  electric field due to the first charge is equal to, -kQ/a²
  • Let us consider the second charge to be of magnitude x,
  • Show the electric field due to the second charge is equal to Kx/9a²
  • The total electric field is given to be 2kQ/a²
  • From our calculations it is Kx/9a² - Kq/a²= k/a²x( x/9 - q)
  • Hence so comparing the above two equation ,
  • x/9 - q = 2q

Or x= 27q
