Given:

Two point charges of 0.2 and -0.2 are separated by 10 to the power minus 8 Metre.

To find:

Determine electric field at an axial point at a distance of 0.1 m from the midpoint use standard value of a E°

Solution:

From given, we have,

The charges are 0.2 and -0.2 are separated by 10 to the power minus 8 Metre.

q = 0.2 and -0.2

d = 10 to the power minus 8 Metre.

At a distance of 0.1 m from the midpoint = r = 0.1 m

Considering the charges 0.2 and -0.2 to form a Dipole, we get,

p = qd

p = 0.2 × 10^{-8} = 2 × 10^{-9}

The electric field at an axial point at a distance of 0.1 m from the midpoint,

E = 2kp/r³

= (2 × 9 × 10^9 × 2 × 10^{-9}) / (0.1)³

= 36 / (0.1)³

∴ The electric field E = 36,000 N/C
