Two point charges of q1 and q2 are separated by a distance of d metres as shown.By what factor will the electrostatic force change if both the charges , q1 and q2, are dôubled and the distance between the two point charges is reduced to half its original value.

Answer:

since the electrostatic force is given by F=kq1q2/r^2

now the charges are doubled and distance is halved the electrostatic force is given by F=k2q1.2q2/(r÷2) ^2

this implies F' = 16 kq1q2/r^2 .

so force is 16 times the original force.
