Question

Two points A and B are 500 km apart on a straightroad. Two motorcycles start at the same time fromA and B towards each other. The speed of one motorcycle is 8 km/h more than the other. If after 4 hours, the distance between them is 36 km, find their respective speeds.

Answer

= let the speed of one motorcycle

= is = x

= speed of other motorcycle = ( x+8 )

= In 4 hours motorcycle

= 4x and 4(x+8)

= 4x+4x(x+8)+36= 500

= 4x+4x+32+36= 500

= 8x+32+36=500

= 8x= 432

= x = 421/8

= x= 54

= Speed of one motorcycle

= x=53 km/h

= Speed of other motorcycle

= (x+8)

= (54+8)

= 62 km/h
