Two points A and B are located on the ground at a certain distance d apart. Two stones are launched simultaneously from A and B with equal speeds but at different angles. Each stone lands at the launch point of the other.Knowing that one of the stone is launched at an angle 0>45 with the horizontal.then what will be the minimum distance between them during flight.

The minimum distance between them during the flight is equal to : u²sin²Z/2g – u²cos²Z/2g.

Explanation:

  • the minimum distance between the two flight will be e when they will reach the maximum height of the projectile. Since they have equal range of projection, but different angle this means that the two angles will be e complementary to each other. However the angles are not same because otherwise they would collide at the same point
  • Therefore, for one stone the angle of projection is Z and for the other stone it will be 90-Z. Hence sin z= cos( 90- z)
  • So the difference between there height is u²sin²Z/2g – u²cos²Z/2g.
