According to the law of Malus,

I = I°.cos^2(x)

Where, x is the phase difference,

Therefore, cos^2(x) = I/I° = 1/2

Therefore, cos(x) = ±1/√2

=> cos(x) = +1/√2 and cos(x) = -1/√2

=> x = ±45° and x = ±135°

=> The effect will be same when any of the two sheets is turned through x in any direction.

Answer:

io/2 cos^2 = cos^2 ( io/2)

coso= + 1/√2

o= 48°, 135°
