height of pole 1 = 10 m

height of pole 2 = 6 m

shadow of pole 1 = 6 m

shadow of pole 2 = x m

DIRECT PROPORTION

height 1 : height 2 : : shadow 1 : shadow 2

10 : 6 : : 6 : x

Product of means = Product of extremes

6 × 6 = 10 × x

36 = 10x

10x = 36 (transposing)

x = 36/10

x = 3.6

therefore, the shadow of pole 2 is 3.6 meters.
