The ratio of their heights is 1:3.

  • Let x and y be the heights of poles.
  • From figure,

            tan 30 = \frac{x}{100}

              \frac{1}{\sqrt{3} }  = \frac{x}{100}

                x = \frac{100}{\sqrt{3}} m

         Now,

             tan 60 = \frac{y}{100}

              \sqrt{3} = \frac{y}{100}

               y = 100\sqrt{3} m

  • Now, the ratio of their heights is given by

                  \frac{x}{y} = \frac{100}{\sqrt{3} } /\frac{100\sqrt{3} }{1}

                  \frac{x}{y} = \frac{1}{\sqrt{3} \sqrt{3} }

                  \frac{x}{y} = \frac{1}{3}

             ∴ x:y = 1:3
