Let AB and CD be the given vertical poles of heights 7m and 13m respectively. Distance BD between the feet of the poles is 8m.

Draw AE || BD meeting CD at E. The , ABDE is a rectangle.

ED = AB = 7m

CE = CD - ED = (13-7)m = 6m

AE = BD = 8m

In right triangle AEC , we have

AC² = AE² + EC²

AC² = (8m)² + (6m)² = (64 + 36)m² = 100 m²

AC \:  =  \sqrt{100}  =  \: 10m

Hence, the distance between the two tops of the two poles are 10m
