Let the two poles be AQ = BL = h
Let AB be the distance between the two poles
Then Let a point P lie anywhere on AB
Join P to the two heights of the pole
Let AP be x and PB be 80 - x
Then tan 60 = AL/AB
Root 3 = h/x
h = x times root 3
Tan 30 = h/ 80-x
1/root 3 = x root 3 / 80-x
80-x = 3 x
4x = 80
x = 20
h = 20 root 3
Therefore the height of the poles are 20 root 3
