In the attached figure,

Green line = Ground

Small black line = pole of 10 m

Long black line = pole of 34 m

AB = Difference between poles =  distance between their feet  = 7 m

========================================

Solution :

By Pythagoras Theorem,

( Length of long pole -  Length of small pole )^2 + ( distance between the poles )^2 = ( distance between their tops )^2

( 34 - 10 )^2 + ( AB )^2 = ( AC )^2

→ ( 24 )^2 + ( 7 )^2 = ( AC )^2

→ 576 + 49 = ( AC )^2

→ 625 = ( AC )^2

→ 25 = AC

Hence, Distance between their tops is 25 m .
