Two poles of height 6m and 11m stand on a plane ground. If the distance between their feet is 12m , find the distance between their tops.

Construction:From A,draw AE ll BD
Then AE=BD=12m
CE=CD -ED =CD - AB= 11 - 6= 5m
Now in right ∆ACE
AC^2= AE^2 + CE^2 (Using Pythagoras Theorem)
AC^2=12^2 + 5^2
AC^2=144+25
AC^2=169
AC=13 m
So distance between their tops is 13m.
