height of tower 1 = 9m

height of tower 2 =14m

distance between their feet = 12m

(refer to the figure above for the diagram)

AC = AD - CD.....(Since BE = CD..Hence CD = 9meters)

AC = 14 - 9

AC = 5 meters

in triangle ABC

by pythagoras theorem

(hypo)2 = (perp)2 + (base)2

(AB)2 = (5)2 + (12)2

AB = 13meters

hence.the distance between their tops is of 13meters
