two poles one 4m high and the other 4.5m high are situated at distance 40m and 50m respec. from eye. which pole appear taller?

Find the angle subtended by the poles at your eyes.
tan α = 4/40 = 0.1
tan β = 4.5 / 50 = 0.09
So α is bigger as tan α is higher. Hence the 4 m pole at 40 m appears bigger.
