two poles started on the ground with their feet 24 metre apart if these poles are respectively 12 metre and 19 metre in height find the distance between their tops??????

if we draw both the poles on paper what we get?????

we get,

two poles which are at 24 meters distance apart from feet as well as from the top. but the pole which is 19m in length has 7m more in length than 12m's poles.

so we can say

pole 1 has 12m in height and the second one has 19m (12+7)m

and we get a triangle at top of the fig. which we have drawn

the triangle has three sides obviously

one of 24m in length this is the base of the triangle and 7m which is perpendicular, and the third is unknown which have to calculate.

on applying Pythagoras theorem

(hypotenuse)² = (base)² + (perpendicular)²

on solving this we get the third side

hypotenuse = √[24²+7²}

                    =√625.

                    = 25m

distance b/w the tops of the poles= 25m
