Two pairs are possible from the numbers with HCF 12 and product 6336

  • Given,

             HCF = 12

  • Product of numbers = 6336
  • Let the numbers be 12x, 12y [∵ 12 is highest common factor of numbers]

        where x, y relatively prime

  • Now,

              (12x)(12y) = 6336

                     xy = 6336/144

                     xy = 44

  • Factors of 44 are (1, 44), (2,22), (4, 11).
  • But the pair (2, 22) is not possible as x, y are relatively prime.

      ∴ The possible pairs are (1, 44) and (4, 11) i.e, 2.
