Two presents cost $120 altogether. One present costs twice as much as the other. What was the price of the more expensive one?

Let the cost of the cheaper present be = x

then the cost of the expensive present be = 2x

according to question

x+ 2x = $120

3x= $120

x= $120/3

x= $40

therefore the cost of the more expensive gift is

2x= 2($40) =$80
