Ratio of the two quantities = 3 : 5

(i) If the smaller alone is made 4 times the original,

Then ratio = 3 × 4 : 5 = 12 : 5.

(ii) If the smaller is doubled and the larger is halved,

Then ratio = 3 × 2 : ½ × 5 = 6 : 5/2 = 12 : 5.

∴ The ratio will become 12 : 5 in every such case.
