Following are the two reasons that led to the civil rights movement in America:

1. Racial discrimination: during World War II, thousands of African Americans served their nation. After returning from the world war they were treated by many southern states as second class citizens. They continued the laws that kept them separated from the Whites. They were not allowed to enter cof-fee shops and required separate schools, restrooms etc.

2. The G.I. Bill: the federal government in order to readjust the veterans to live after returning back from the war, assisted offset the expense of a college education for veterans. Though thousands of vet-erans took advantage of the opportunity, many faced discrimination in the field of employment. Many of the graduates of the African-American community had to accept jobs that they could easily obtain without a college degree. As a result, the African-Americans organized a movement to get equal rights.
