IR1 = 4.5 A   ;  IR2 = 10.5 A .

Given:

  • Two resistance R1 = 3 ohm and  R2 = 7 ohms.
  • The total current through the resistors  I = 15 A.

To Find:

  • The current through the resistors R1 & R2 ?

Solution:

The current flows through the resistor R1 is   I_{R1} = I (R2 / R1+R2)

The current flows through the resistor R2 is  I_{R2}  = I (R2 / R1+R2)

Application with the values,

R1 = 3 Ω, R2 = 7 Ω, I = 15 A

IR1 = I_{3ohms} =  15 × (3 / 10)

                  =  15 (0.3)

                  =   4.5 A

IR2 = I_{7ohms} = 15 × (7 / 10)

                   =  15 (0.7)

                   =   10.5 A

Hence the current through the resistors R1 & R2 are :

I R1  = 4.5 A

I R2 = 10.5 A
