Two resistance are connected in(a) series (b) parallel. The equivalent resistance in the two cases are 9 ohm and 2 ohm respectively. Then find the resistances of the component resistors.

Answer:

Let the first resistance be X ohms

and the second be Y ohms...

In series

X+Y=9

In parallel

1/X + 1/Y = 1/2

⇒XY/X+Y =2

XY/9 = 2

XY=18

The resistances are 6Ω and 3Ω.
