Let i1 and i2 be the current flowing through resistors be r1 and r2.

Thus,

i = i1 + i2

the potential difference V across both resistors is same as the resistors are arranged in parallel combination.

i1 = V/r1

i2 = V/r2

Thus,

i equals V over r subscript 1 plus V over r subscript 2
