Two resistances are in the ratio 1:2.If these are connected in parallel,their equivalent resistance become 8ohm.Calculate the value of each resiatance.​

Solution:

Let x be the common factor of the given ratio.

The resistances would be x and 2x.

Thus,R1=x and R2=2x

The two resistors are connected in parallel.

Equivalent resistance:8Ω

or,Rp=8Ω

Since they are connected in parallel connection.

1/Rp=1/R1+1/R2

 \frac{1}{8}  =  \frac{x + 2x}{2x {}^{2} }  \\  \\  \implies \: 2x {}^{2}  = 24x \\  \\  \implies \: 2x = 24 \\  \\  \implies \: x = 12

R1=x=12Ω

and R2=2x=2(12)=24Ω

The resistances in R1 and R2 are 12Ω and 24Ω respectively
