if the potential difference across the combination of 5 volt then the work done per unit time is 5 joules.
if power is equal to 5 watt then resistance of a resistor will be 5 ohm's,
1/r=1/5+1/5
r=2.5 ohm's
we know that potential difference is equal to current * resistance.
v=lR
5=5l
l=1A
so the current is 1 ampere.
