In series combination equivalent resistance= R1 + R2 +R3... So (100) + (-3)

100-3= 97 ohms.

And in parallel the reciprocal of the equivalent resistance is equal to the sum of the reciprocal of the individual resistances.

So 1/R = 1/100 + 1/-3

1/R = 1/100 - 1/3 = -99/300

R = -300/99
