two resistors are connected in series across a 24V supply and a current of 3A flies in the circuit.If one of the resistors has a resistance of 2 determine a. the value of the other resistors,and b. the potential difference across the 2 resistors.If the circuit is connected for 50 hours,how much energy is used?

Answer:
a) 6 ohm
b) 6V
c) 12960000J
Solution:
let, r1 and r2 be the two resistors
V be the voltage supply across r1 and r2
I be the current on the circuit
here, r1 = 2 ohm
V = 24V and I = 3A
since, the resistance are in series
so, total resistance = r1 +r2 = 2+ r2
we know,
V = I( total resistance)
24 = 3 (2 +r2)
24 = 6 + 3r2
3r2 = 24-6
3r2 = 18
r2 = 6 ohm
now, the potential difference across the 2 resistors will be
V1 = I r1
V1 = 3*2 = 6 V
power = VI = 24*3 = 72 watt
again, energy = power* time
energy = 72*180000 = 12960000J , since 50hr = 180000sec
