Two resistors of resistance 1000Ω and 2000Ωare joined in series with a 100V
supply. A voltmeter of internal resistance 4000Ω is connected to measure the p.d.
across 1000Ω resistor. Find the difference in the measurement with and without the
voltmeter.

The equivalent resistance of the Voltmeter (1000Ω) and the given resistance of 1000Ω is 500ohms.
Now in effect there are two resistance in the circuit each of 500Ω.
Hence the p.d. of 1.5volt will be equally divided across the two i.e., p.d. across each will be 0.75volt.
The voltmeter will read this potential difference.
