Given :

▪ Two resistors of resistance R and 3R are connected in series in an electrical circuit.

To Find :

➳ The ratio of electrical power consumed by R and 3R.

Concept :

⇒ We know that, Current flow through each resistor in series connection remains same.

⇒ Formula of electric power consumed by resistor in terms of current flow is given by

\bigstar\:\underline{\boxed{\bf{P=I^2R}}}

  • P denoted power
  • I denotes current
  • R denotes resistance

⇒ Here, Current flow in each resistor is same, so we can say that

\bigstar\:\underline{\boxed{\bf{P\propto R}}}

Calculation :

:\implies\sf\:\dfrac{P_1}{P_2}=\dfrac{R_1}{R_2}

:\implies\sf\:\dfrac{P_1}{P_2}=\dfrac{R}{3R}

:\implies\underline{\boxed{\bf{P_1:P_2=1:3}}}
