Hey.. I think this can be ur answer!!

Two resistors connected in parallel so,
1 /R 1 +1/12 =3
1 /R1 = 3-1/12
1 /R 1 = 36-1/12
1/R 1=35/12
R1 =12/35 = 0.34 ohm

The resistors are connected in parallel.

so,

 \frac{1}{rp}  =  \frac{1}{r1}  +  \frac{1}{r2}

 \frac{1}{3}  =  \frac{1}{r1}  +  \frac{1}{12}

 \frac{1}{r1}  =  \frac{1}{3}  -  \frac{1}{12}

 \frac{1}{r1}  =  \frac{12 - 3}{36}

 \frac{1}{r1}  =  \frac{9}{36}

 \frac{1}{r1}  =  \frac{1}{4}

r1 = 4 \: ohms.

hope this helps ! ! !
