two resistors, RI and R2, are first connected in series and then in parallel across the
same source.
1)In which case is the current through the source greater?
2)In which case is the rate of conversion of electrical energy to heat energy greater?

Answer:

(1)

PARALLEL

(2)

PARALLEL

__________________________________________________________

If V is kept constant.

(1)

V=IR

=>I=\frac{V}{R}

=> more resistance will result in lesser current.

We know, parallel has less  resistance, hence,

Parallel will have more current requirement.

(2)

AS

V=\frac{V^{2}}{R}       [ we use this formula as V is constant, if I was constant in place of V, we would have used this :

H=I^{2}R]

so, greater current will result in greater power or greater .

And we know current is greater in series, so ans is Parallel.
