Explanation:

resistors assumed R1 AND R2

series resistance 9 -----A

Parallel Resistance 2----B

in series resistance R1+R2=9

IN parallel resistance R1×R2/(R1+R2) = 2

THEREFORE R1×R2=18

SO R1=18/R2 -------C

C in A

R²2 + 18= 9R2

R²2 -6R2 -3R2 +18=0 (FACTORISING)

R2 (R2- 6) -3(R2 -6)=0

So

R2=6 THEREFORE R1=3

OR

R1=3 THEREFORE R2=6
