Two resistors with resistance 5ohms and 10 ohms respectively are connected to a battery of 6v so as to obtain 1) minimum current 2) maximum current.
a) how will you connect the resistance in each case
b) calculate the total current in the circuit in the two cases

•If they are in series-

Rs= 5ohms +10ohms

Therefore Rs=15ohms

V=6V

Since V/R=I

6/15= 0.6 Ampere

•If they are in parallel-

1/Rp= 1/10+1/5

=3/10 ohms

Therefore Rp= 10/3=3.33 ohms

I=6/3.33=1.80 Ampere

Henceforth current will be maximum in a parallel circuit and minimum in a series circuit.

Connect resistance in series to get minimum current .

Connect resistance in parallel to get maximum current .

In series,

R=5ohm+10ohm=15ohm

V=6v

I=6/15=0.4A

In parallel,

1/R=1/10 +1/5= 15/50

R=50/15=10/3ohm

V=6v

I=6/10/3=18/10=1.8A
