Two Rheo peels were taken. One peel was put in a Petri dish containing cold water and the other was put in a
Petri dish containing hot water. After a while both were transferred to hypertonic solutions. If the peels were
observed under a microscope, will there be any difference in the observation of both the peels? Yes or No, give
reasons for your answer.

Answer:

The cells of the leaf placed in cold water will remain living and absorb water due to endosomosis while the cells of leaf placed in hot water will become dead and dead cells do not absorb or loose water.

When both of these leaves are placed in hypertonic solution and observed under microscope, the leaf which was placed in cold water will show plasmolysis while the leaf placed in hot water will not show plasmolysis. Thus, it shows that only living cells undergo plasmolysis not the dead cells.
