Two roads of width 3 m run perpendicular to each other in the middle of a garden. The garden is of length 100 m and breadth 80 m. The roads are laid at a cost of Rs.11 per m² and the remaining garden is leveled at Rs.5 per m². Find the total amount spent

Here, we will consider the cost of leveling the roads and the garden separately.

Now, the area of both the roads together = 2 × 100 m ×  3 m

                                                                     = 600 m²

Also, area of the whole garden = length × breadth

                                                    = 100 m × 80 m

                                                    = 8000 m²

Now, are of remaining garden (without roads) = 8000 m² - 600 m²

                                                                             = 7400 m²

Thus, cost of leveling roads = 600 m² × Rs. 11

                                               = Rs. 6600

Also, cost of leveling remaining garden = 7400 m² × Rs. 5

                                                                  = Rs. 37000

Thus, total amount spent = Rs. 6600 + Rs. 37000

                                          = Rs. 43600
