Answer:

Appropriate Question

Two sides of a parallelogram are 14 cm and 8 cm. If the height corresponding to the side of length 14 cm is 7 cm long, find the length of the height corresponding to the side 8 cm.

Solution

Let assume that ABCD be a parallelogram such that

AB = 14 cm and BC = 8 cm.

Let further assume that

DE and DF be the altitude drawn on AB and BC such that DE = 7 cm and DF = h cm

We know, Area of parallelogram = Base × Height

So, using this result

AB × DE = BC × DF

∴ 14 × 7 = 8 × h

⟹ 98 = 8h

⟹ h = 49/4 cm

Q- Two sides of a parallelogram are 14 cm and 8 cm . if the height corresponding to the side of the length 14 cm is 7 cm long, find the length of the height corresponding to the side 8 cm.

Given,

The two sides of a parallelogram are 14cm and 8cm

The height corresponding to the side of length 14 is 7cm

To Find,

The length of the height corresponding to the side 8 cm =?

Solution,

Let the length of the height corresponding to the side 8 cm be h

From the area of the parallelogram we have,

The area of the parallelogram = Base * Height

According to the question, the height corresponding to the side of length 14 is 7cm. Therefore, Base = 14cm and height  = 7cm

The area of the parallelogram = 14 * 7 ⇒ Equation 1

Also, the length of the height corresponding to the side 8 cm is h> therefore, base = 8cm and height = h

The area of the parallelogram = 8 * h ⇒ Equation 2

Equating equation 1 and 2, we get

8 * h =  14 * 7

h = 14 * 7 / 8

h = 98 / 8

h = 12.25 cm

Hence, the length of the height corresponding to the side 8 cm is 12.25cm.
