Step-by-step explanation:

x × x + 6 = 216

x²+6x - 216 = 0

x² + 18x - 12x - 216 = 0

x(x+18) - 12(x+18) = 0

(x+18)(x-12) = 0

either x = -18 or X = 12

since , x cannot be negative.

therefore x = 12 cm

therefore it's initial area = 12 × 12 square cm = 144 square cm
