Two snails, Enrique and Julio decided to participate in a tandem race, where both of them would have to bite onto a baton and glide through the track together.

• The track was 4 inches long, and Enrique and Julio covered three inches in six and three-quarters minutes.

• They covered the first and second half of the track at the same time, and they covered the third and fourth quarters of the track at the same time.

To find -

How many seconds did it take for the two snails to get from the start to the finish line?

Answer - Option B , 540 seconds

Solution -

As per the information given, the length of the track is 4 inches.

They both can move at a speed of 3 inches in 6 and three - quarters minutes or 6 × 60 + ¾ × 60 = 405 seconds .

Time taken to move one inch -

> 405/3 = 135 seconds .

The track length is 4 inches.

Time taken to cover the entire track -

> 135 × 4 = 540 seconds.

Hence, they reached the finish line in 540 seconds.

Given :-

Two snails, Enrique and Julio decided to participate in a tandem race, where both of them would have to bite onto a baton and glide through the track together. The track was 4 inches long, and Enrique and Julio covered three inches in six and three-quarters minutes. They covered the first and second half of the track at the same time, and they covered the third and fourth quarters of the track at the same time.

To Find :-

How many seconds did it take for the two snails to get from the start to the finish line?

Solution :-

Let's do it step by step

Time taken to move 3 inches = 6 and three-quarter minutes

1 min = 60 sec

6 min = 6 × 60 = 360

3/4 of one minutes = 3/4 × 60 = 3 × 15 = 45 sec

Total time taken = 360 + 45 = 405 sec

By proportional method

Time : Distance

405 : 3

x : 1

By cross multiplication

1(405) = 3(x)

x = 405 × 1/3

x = 405/3

x = 135 sec

Time taken to cover 4 second = 4 × 135

Time taken to cover 4 second = 540 sec

\sf \therefore{\textsf{\textbf{\red{\underline{Time \; taken \; is 540 \; seconds}}}}}
