Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar and Keshab Chandra Sen were the two social reformers who advocated widow remarriage. Besides, Debendranath Tagore was also a great reformer who advocated widow remarriage.

The above social reformers advocated women education, widow remarriage and abolition of polygamy. Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar started a powerful movement in support of Widow remarriage and it was due to his efforts that Hindu Remarriage Act was passed in 1856.
