Two spheres pf radii 3cm and 8cm are charged with 4×10^-9C and 16×10^-9C of electricity respectively.if they are joined by a wire how much charge will flow from one to the other sphere
Answers
Dear Student,
◆ Answer -
∆q = 1.45×10^-9 C
◆ Explaination -
# Given -
q1 = 4×10^-9 C
q2 = 16×10^-9 C
r1 = 3 cm
r2 = 8 cm
# Solution -
Let Q1 and Q2 be final charge on each sphere.
By law of conservation of charges,
Q1 + Q2 = q1 + q2
Q1 + Q2 = 4×10^-9 + 16×10^-9
Q1 + Q2 = 2×10^-8 C ...(1)
Potential on both charges will become equal on joining.
V1 = V2
k.Q1/r1 = k.Q2/r2
Q1/3 = Q2/8
Q2 = 8/3 Q1 ...(2)
From (1) and (2),
Q1 + 8/3 Q1 = 2×10^-8
11/3 Q1 = 2×10^-8
Q1 = 2×10^-8 × 3/11
Q1 = 5.45×10^-9 C
Charge that is transferred is -
∆q = Q1 - q1
∆q = 5.45×10^-9 - 4×10^-9
∆q = 1.45×10^-9 C
Therefore, 1.45×10^-9 C charge will be transferred from bigger sphere to smaller sphere.
Thanks dear...
