two spherical bodies of mass 20g and 24 g are moving with velocities 7m/s and 5m/s respectively in the same direction after colliding with each other, they stuck to gather and move with same velocity. calculate the common velocity with which they move

Answer:

Mass (m1) = 20 g

= 0.02 kg

Mass (m2) = 24 g

= 0.024 kg

Initial Velocity of m1 (u1) = 7 m/s

Initial Velocity of m2 (u2) = 5 m/s

According to law of conservation of momentum,

m1u1 + m2u2 = v(m1+m2)

= (0.02*7) + (0.024*5) = v(0.02+0.024)

= 0.14+0.12 = 0.044v

= 0.26 = 0.044v

= 5.9 m/s = v

The Common Velocity is 5.9 m/s.

I hope this helps.
