Two straight infinitely long wires are fixed in space so that the current in the

left wire is 2 A and directed out of the plane of the page and the current in

the right wire is 3 A and directed into the plane of the page. In which

region(s) is/are there a point on the x-axis, at which the magnetic field is

equal to zero due to these currents carrying wires? Justify your answer.

Explanation:

So,the current carrying wires are present along the y-axis ,such that 2A wire is along +y-axis and 3A wire is along -y-axis .... Magnetic field intensity due to 2A wire will be directed along +z-axis.

Net Magnetic Field may be possibly zero in REGION 1.

  • So, the current carrying wires are present along the Y axis , such that 2A wire is along +Y axis and 3A wire is along -Y axis.

  • Now, in region 1: Magnetic field intensity due to 2A wire will be directed along +Z axis.Magnetic field intensity due to 3A wire will be directed along -Z axis.

  • Hence they can cancel each other such that the net magnetic field intensity will become zero.

  • Another thing to keep in mind is the distance of the wire from the neutral point in region 1.3A current is more in amount but distance is greater.2A current is less in amount but distance is less.

  • Hence , final answer is Region 1.
