X is a compound because elements react to form compounds.
Difference between elements and compounds are:
1. Element consists of one kind of atoms whereas compounds consists of one kind of molecule made up of two or more types of atoms.
2. Element cannot be broken into simpler substances but compounds can be broken into simpler substances.
Example of element is Hydrogen and example of compound is Water.
