Answer:

What is the effective discount (in %) on two successive discounts of 20% and 10%?

Let the amount on which two successive discounts applicable be ₹100

After first successive discount of 20% it's price will be

20/100 × 100 = ₹20

Price after 20% discount = 100 - 20 = ₹80

After 2nd successive discount of 10% it's price

10/100 × 80

= 80/10

= ₹8

Price after 2nd successive discount

= ₹80 - 8

= ₹72

Total discount = 100 - 72 = 28

As the amount of ₹28 has been based on ₹100 as such the percentage dis puny after two successive discount of 20% and 10% it will be 28%

Answer the effective discount (in %) on two successive discounts of 20% and 10% will be 28%
