Capacity of the 2nd tank = 680 litres.

Therefore, the max. capacity of a container, which can measure the petrol of either tanker in exact number of litres = HCF OF 850 and 680.

HCF of 850 and 680 is

850 = 2x5x5x17

680 = 2x2x2x5x17

Therefore,HCF = 2x5x17 = 170

So, The maximum capacity of the container is 170 litres.
