Given  : Two taps A & B can together fill a swimming pool in 12 days.

A and B are kept open for 10 days . then B is  closed.

It takes Another 6 days for the pool to be filled.

To Find : How many days tap  A  requires to fill the pool

Solution:

Two taps A & B can together fill a swimming pool in 12 days.

1/A + 1/B  = 1/12

A and B are kept open for 10 days

Hence filled = 10/12 = 5/6

Remaining  = 1- 5/6  =  1/6

A fills 1//6  in 6 days

Hence 6/A  = 1/6   => A = 36

A takes 36 days to fill

1/36 + 1/B  = 1/12

=> 1/B  =  2/36

=> B = 18

B takes 18 days to fill
