Two taps A and B can fill a tank individually in 8 hrs and 12 hrs respectively. Both taps were opened at 10 am, when the tank was empty. After some time tap B was shut and it was observed that the tank was filled at 4 pm .

If after closing tap B, it is reopened after 60 min. then what would be the total time in min. to fill the tank completely ?

Answer:

312 minutes

Step-by-step explanation:

Find out the efficiency of A and B

Take LCM of given time 8, 12

LCM = 24

Assume 24 unit is the total capacity of tank

A efficiency = 24/8 = 3

B efficiency = 24/12 = 2

Next if B tap is reopened after 60 minutes then,

A alone fill the tank for 1 hrs = 1*3 = 3 units

remaining units = 24- 3 = 21 unit

Means 21 unit is filled by A+B

then it takes time to fill the 21 unit = 21/5 = 4hr 12mintues

Total time = 1 hrs + 4hrs 12minutes

= 5hrs 12min

Convert 5hrs 12mintues into minutes

=> 5*60 + 12

=> 300 + 12

=> 312 minutes
