A and B kept open for 12 days

work done in 12 days = 12/15 = 4/5

Work remaining = 1 - 4/5 = 1/5

A completed 1/5 work in 8 days

A will complete whole work alone in 40 days

A and B did in 12 days

A alone did in 40 days

B alone will do in

One day work of A and B together = 1/15

One day work of A = 1/40

One day work of B = X

1/(A+B) - 1/A = 1/B

1/15 - 1/40 = 1/x

(8 - 3) / 120 = 1/x

5/120 = 1/x

1/24 = 1/x

x = 24

So B alone can do it in 24 days
