Question ⇒ Two taps can fill a tank in 10 hours and 15 hours respectively find out the time taken to fill the tank when both taps are turned on simultaneously?

Solution ↓

Let the two taps are A and B

A,s can fill a tank in 10 hr so the tank filled by A's in

1 hour work =   \frac{1}{10}

B's can fill the tank in 15 hr so the tank filled by

B's in 1 hour work =  \frac{1}{15}

The time taken to  fill the tank when both taps are turned on simultaneously is the sum of time taken to fill the tank by A and B in one hour is  ( A + B )'s 1 hour work

                     =   \frac{1}{10} +  \frac{1}{15}

                    =     \frac{3+2}{30}

                     =   \frac{1}{6}

Thus, both the pipes together can fill the tank in 6 hr.
