The two types of taxes mentioned in the Edicts of Ashoka are:
- Bali
- Bhaga.
- While Bali is the tax taken in the form of levy, it has been considered the same during the Mauryan period as well.
- Bhaga, on the other hand, is the main revenue that had been levied at the rate of around 1/4th-1/6th. It is mostly imposed on the sharecroppers.
